Here is the opposite view looking towards the furnace room and the laundry room. I have cut back the wall at the bottom of the stairs a bit to open up the area. I have moved the garage water shut off into the furnace area so it can be easily accessed. The angled furnace wall keeps the space between the post and the furnace room large enough so it doesn’t look awkward. Normally I would encompass the post in a wall but in this small basement that would eat up valuable space.
