This basement was one of the last basements where the owners wanted a suspended ceiling. Most basements today have drywall ceilings which makes the area more like the main floor and doesn’t make you feel like you’re in the basement. In this application I had ample room on both sides of the doors to install pocket doors. Unless you have a fairly expensive set of hardware I don’t usually recommend pocket doors. In a lot of the systems out there the door ends up rubbing on the opening and takes the paint off. This job was on a fairly tight budget and some time ago as you can see, so the laminate was the old wider board style and was only 8mm thick. There was ample storage room, a sewing room along with a two piece washroom. A very big transformation from the old basement I tore out.
