I can tell you that I removed the green aqua board (old drywall used in bathrooms) and replaced it with Dens shield tile backer board. I sealed all the joints with fibreglass tape then covered it with thin set mortar. After that I used a rubberized sealant (pinkish color) and coated all the seams, screw heads, and corners. I have installed some of the marble which the glass will sit on.
